Culebra and Vieques: Spanish Virgin Islands anchorages

15 places · Puerto Rico

Two Puerto Rican islands, 19 miles from Fajardo and 21 from St. Thomas. On Culebra, Ensenada Honda gives shelter from everything: free moorings at Dakity behind the reef, good holding in sand off Dewey. Flamenco and Tamarindo to the west, Carlos Rosario and Luis Peña inside the Canal Luis Peña reserve, where fishing is banned and anchors go on sand only, and Culebrita with its day moorings, open to the northerly swell. On Vieques, Ensenada Honda is a hurricane hole, Sun Bay holds well on its east side, and Esperanza carries less water than charted. On the south-east coast, stay on the beaches: unexploded ordnance remains inland.
