Guide
Approach and anchoring
The York River is an estuary where the tide runs hard, so plan the entrance near slack water. Anchoring within the harbour itself is not permitted; the town manages five transient moorings and lets vacant ones on a first-come basis, with controlling depths around 2.7 metres. Contact the harbour master on the seasonal Town Dock number before picking up a buoy.
Practical
Transient moorings run about 50 USD per night and a 24-hour limit applies, with crew expected to stay aboard. York Harbor Marine Service lies 0.2 nm south for fuel and yard work. Pepperrell Cove offers a further refuge 4 nm south-west.
Ashore
Town docks sit by the York River bridge and along the causeway to Harris Island. The Cliff Walk runs from the harbour beach along the headland. Marshes and protected coves upriver act as a nursery for shorebirds and young fish.
