Approach and anchoring
Enter from the Gulf of Maine through the mouth of the Piscataqua, then take the Back Channel north of Jamaica Island. Strong tidal stream in the main river, up to 4 knots on springs. The basin itself is sheltered on three and a half sides and rates as the area's primary hurricane hole.
Practical
43 deep-water moorings and 9 berths, taking visitors up to 65 ft on moorings and 60 ft alongside. VHF channel 71. 24/7 heads and shower at the office, lounge with coffee, WiFi, book swap, grills and courtesy bikes on site. Full-service yard for outboard and diesel repowers, fibreglass, refits, haulout and winter storage.
Ashore
Kittery Point village within walking distance, with Frisbee's Market, in business since 1828 and reckoned the oldest continuously operating family store in the United States. Fort McClary State Historic Site at 600 m, with a granite blockhouse from the 1840s. Portsmouth, NH and its restaurants reached by water taxi or 4 km by road across the Memorial Bridge.
