Full-service marina on New Castle Island, New Hampshire, at the mouth of the Piscataqua River near Portsmouth.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from the Atlantic through the Piscataqua River entrance, with Portsmouth Harbor about 2 miles upstream. Floating pontoons with roughly 10 metres of depth at the berths take vessels well over 60 metres. The Piscataqua runs a strong tidal current, so time the approach near slack water.
Practical
Around 170 berths, with transient berths available. Diesel on the fuel berth, 30/50/100 amp shore power, fresh water, heads, showers and laundry. A free pump-out station, courtesy cars and rental cars, plus a heated pool and four restaurants on site.
History
The marina sits below the Wentworth by the Sea hotel, built in 1874. In 1905 the hotel housed the Russian and Japanese delegations who negotiated the Treaty of Portsmouth, ending the Russo-Japanese War.
