Guide

Approach and anchoring

On the Intracoastal Waterway at ICW marker 35. Floating dock space runs to several hundred feet. There are no overhead height limits on the approach from Wassaw Sound, and the yard takes draughts to 15 feet.

Practical

Transient berths billed at a 30-foot minimum per day. Fuel berth, pump-out, ship's store, showers, heads, laundry and WiFi. The yard hauls and refits vessels from 60 feet to 60 metres in a heat-controlled spray booth.

Ashore

Thunderbolt's seafood restaurants and town docks are along River Drive nearby. Downtown Savannah lies about 5 miles north-west.

History

Thunderbolt grew as a shrimping village on the Wilmington River, with trawlers once berthed several deep along both banks. It was incorporated as Warsaw in 1856 and renamed Thunderbolt in 1921.
