Approach and anchoring
On the Piscataqua River, which runs a strong tidal current of up to several knots, so time arrivals near slack water. The pier is the working core of Portsmouth's waterfront, with fishing boats coming and going through the day.
Practical
Operated by the New Hampshire Port Authority. Berths require a Pier Use permit for commercial fishermen and there is no overnight berthing for visiting yachts. The pier provides fuel, ice and fish storage. Prescott Park municipal dock lies just across the channel to the south-west.
