Anchorage on sand off Roche Cardin in the Chausey archipelago area west of Granville, sheltered only from SW winds.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach under the Chausey tidal range, one of the largest in Europe at over 12 m at springs. Use the SHOM 7134 chart, numerous drying rocks between the Sound and the mainland. Hérel - Granville marina 7.9 NM east, Port Picain 11.1 NM south as fallback harbours.
Practical
Day anchorage only in settled weather, exposed to all quadrants except SW. No services. Sand bottom gives fair holding but check swinging room at low water with the strong tidal streams.
Ashore
Chausey main island with its 19th century fort, granite quarries that supplied stone for Mont-Saint-Michel, and a signed footpath around the Grande Île. Seabird colonies including cormorants and oystercatchers on the outer rocks.
