Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach requires careful navigation among the rocks and islets of Chausey, which show the largest tidal range in Europe with over 14 m at springs. Use the SHOM 7134 chart. Sand and mud bottom offers fair holding. Exposed to winds from the east and south-east sectors. Tidal streams run strongly between the islets.
Practical
No facilities. Grande Île de Chausey has a restaurant, small shop and the Hôtel du Fort et des Îles open in season. Port de Hérel in Granville lies 8.5 nm east with a full service marina, lock access near high water, fuel and 1000 berths.
Ashore
Grande Île de Chausey can be reached by tender. Footpath circuit of the island takes about 2 hours, passing the lighthouse, the old Fort and the Sound seal haul-outs. The archipelago is a Natura 2000 site and a classified natural reserve for seabirds.
