Guide

Approach and anchoring

Reached from Lake Pontchartrain through Bayou Castine, west of Mandeville harbour. The lake holds 12 to 14 ft over most of its area. Dockside depth at the marina is about 14 ft, and berths take vessels from 15 ft up to 250 ft.

Practical

153 berths under covered piers, with shore power, toilets and showers. The Pontchartrain Yacht Club and several restaurants are within walking distance.

Ashore

The Tammany Trace rail trail runs close to the marina, crossing Bayou Castine and carrying on 31 miles through Fontainebleau State Park, 2,800 acres with the brick ruins of an 1829 sugar mill. Mandeville's lakefront park is a short walk south.

History

Prieto Marina has been run by the same family since 1963. Bayou Castine takes its name from the Acolapissa peoples who settled the north shore long before European arrival.
