Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Vilaine estuary between the Basse Bertrand buoy and the shore. Sand bottom, good holding. Sheltered from NE through E to SE, exposed to westerlies which build a swell on the Atlantic side. Tidal streams run up to 2 knots on springs near the river mouth.
Practical
Forain anchorage, no services. Port Vilaine Maritime at La Roche-Bernard reach lies 3.2 NM to the NE for a fallback berth with diesel, water and electricity. Kercabellec slipway 3.6 NM to the S on the south side of the estuary.
Ashore
Plage de la Mine d'Or with its ochre cliffs 2.5 km south by the coastal path GR 34. Salt marshes of Mès estuary and the Pointe du Bile nature area along the same coastal path.
