Approach and anchoring
Reached from the Atlantic via the Vilaine estuary and the lock of Arzal-Camoël at 1.6 NM to the northeast. The lock cycles during daylight. Max draught 2 m at the pontoons. Once past the lock, no tide and no current.
Practical
130 berths on pontoons with water and electricity. Capitainerie, sanitary block with showers, and waste disposal. Fuel berth at Arzal-Camoël, 1.8 NM east. Grocery and bakery in Pénestin village at about 2 km.
Ashore
Coastal path from Pénestin to the Mine d'Or cliffs, named for the golden mica schist that sparkles in the setting sun, at about 3 km from the port. Mytiliculture of moules de bouchot is the main local activity, with direct sales at several producers along the shore.
History
The Arzal-Camoël dam, completed in 1970, turned the lower Vilaine into a non-tidal freshwater reach, enabling the creation of marinas such as Port Vilaine Maritime upstream of the barrage.
