Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Bay of Quiberon on the axis of the Gulf entrance. Watch the tidal stream, which can reach 6 to 8 knots at springs between Port Navalo and Locmariaquer. Prefer slack water or the first of the flood for entering the Gulf. Lighthouse of Port Navalo to the south of the entrance. VHF 9.
Practical
235 berths, max draught 1.8 m. Water and electricity on the pontoons. Fuel at Port du Crouesty, 0.8 NM to the south east. Bakery, grocery and restaurants in the village, within 150 m of the pontoons.
Ashore
Coastal path from the lighthouse to Pointe de Bilgroix, 1.2 km west, with view over the mouth of the Gulf. Passenger ferry to Locmariaquer and the Île aux Moines departs from the quay. Beach of Port Navalo, sand, just north of the pontoons.
History
Port Navalo was a pilot station from the 17th century for ships entering the Gulf of Morbihan and the Vannes roadstead. The masonry lighthouse dates from 1840 and still marks the western side of the entrance channel.
