Drying tidal harbour on the north shore of the Baie de Bourgneuf, commune of Bouin in the Vendée marshes.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach by a buoyed channel across the mudflats of the Baie de Bourgneuf from the west. The channel dries at low water and is only workable from HW minus two hours to HW plus two hours on springs. Keep to the marks, the flats extend several hundred metres either side. No night entry.
Practical
Drying berths alongside wooden and stone quays, boats sit on the mud at low water. A bilge-keeler or centreboard is better suited. Water on the quay, no fuel on site. Village of Bouin at 3 km with bakery, small supermarket and restaurants.
Ashore
Dyke path along the polders of the Marais breton-vendéen, used by walkers and cyclists on the Vélodyssée route. Salt pans still worked around Bouin. Oyster stalls at Port du Bec at 6 km by road. Passage du Gois to Noirmoutier at 12 km, crossable only at low water.
