River port of 80 berths on the Meuse at Charleville-Mézières, in the Ardennes, between locks 46 and 47 of the Canal de la Meuse.

Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Meuse waterway. Air draught limited by the bridges of Charleville and by the Ham tunnel upstream at 3.50 m above normal water level. Lock operation April to October, remote control by telecommande provided by Voies Navigables de France. Maximum vessel length 38.50 m on the Meuse gauge.
Practical
Eighty berths along floating pontoons, water and electricity on the quays, showers and WC at the capitainerie, fuel pump, waste pump-out, crane for small craft. Bread and groceries within 300 m, full supermarket at 1.2 km in Charleville.
Ashore
Place Ducale, the 1606 square designed by Clément Metezeau, is 900 m from the port on the right bank. Musee Arthur Rimbaud in the old Vieux Moulin on the Meuse, 700 m. The Voie Verte Trans-Ardennes cycle path runs alongside the port and links Givet to Mouzon over 130 km.
History
Charleville was founded in 1606 by Charles de Gonzague, duke of Nevers, as a planned ducal town modelled on Place des Vosges in Paris. The Meuse was canalised in stages during the nineteenth century and carries cargo traffic to Belgium and the Netherlands.
Story
Arthur Rimbaud was born in Charleville in 1854 and wrote Le Bateau ivre here at seventeen, though he had never seen the sea.
