Drying harbour on the Côte de Granit Rose at Penvénan, 350 moorings behind a chain of pink granite islets.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the N by the Île Saint-Gildas channel, marked by a white pyramid beacon used as a leading mark. The anchorage dries on sand and rocks, so most visitors take a mooring buoy. Entry by day only in settled weather; exposed to N and NE winds. VHF channel 9 for the harbour master.
Practical
350 moorings, maximum draught 2.1 m on the outer buoys. Water at the slipway, fuel by jerrycan from the village service station. Capitainerie open in season. Bakery, grocer and two restaurants in the hamlet 200 m from the quay.
Ashore
Coastal footpath GR 34 passes along the shore, with the Chapelle Saint-Gildas on its rocky islet reachable on foot at low water. Plage de Port-Blanc lies directly west of the harbour. Village of Penvénan 2 km inland for a Wednesday market.
History
Small fishing station developed in the 19th century, later frequented by writers Anatole Le Braz and Theodor Botrel, who popularised the Côte de Granit Rose in French literature around 1900.
