Approach and anchoring

Lies just outside the entrance of the Aber Ildut, one of the three main abers of north-west Brittany. Approach on the marked channel between Le Lieu and Men Tassin beacons. Strong tidal streams on the ebb flowing out of the aber. Sand and weed, back the anchor. Open to W, E, SW, S and SE. L'Aber Ildut harbour 0.2 nm to the N, anchorage south of Ile Meulon 1.3 nm NW.

Practical

Forain anchorage with no services. Fuel, water and pontoon berths inside the Aber Ildut at Lanildut and Brelès. Lanildut is the leading seaweed-landing port in Europe for the brown-algae harvest.

Ashore

Sentier des douaniers GR 34 runs along the granite shore past the Porspaul beach and on to the Pointe de Corsen, the westernmost point of mainland France. Village shops at Lanildut within walking distance of the pontoons.

History

Granite quarried along the Aber Ildut shore was shipped from Lanildut in the 19th century and used, among other places, for the base of the Cleopatra Needle on the Thames Embankment in London.
