Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the west in settled weather. Mixed sand and weed bottom, set the anchor with care to clear the kelp. Open to winds from NW through SE, use only with a southerly or westerly breeze. Rocks scatter the approach, stay within the charted fairway. Nearest shelter is L'Aber-Ildut 2.7 NM S.
Practical
No facilities. Landing by tender on the sand. Village of Porspoder with bakery and grocery about 1 km inland on foot.
Ashore
GR 34 sentier des douaniers runs along the cliffs behind the beach, continuous path to Pointe de Landunvez 2 km north. Lanildut kelp port, first seaweed landing port in France, lies 2 km south by road.
Story
The Aber-Ildut area lands the largest volume of harvested kelp in France, around 35 000 tonnes per year.
