Approach and anchoring

Approach from the Pertuis Breton at high water only. Bottom is sand with rocky patches and the whole area dries out on a large tidal range, so check height-of-tide before entering. Shelter from N through E; fully open to the west where the prevailing winds of the Pertuis build a short chop. Watch for oyster tables and withies marking shellfish concessions inshore.

Practical

No facilities at the beach. Port de Goisil 1.2 NM north is a drying harbour. Port de Loix 1.9 NM north is the nearest harbour with a pontoon and visitor moorings. Shops in Loix village within walking distance of both ports.

Ashore

Cycle path network of the Île de Ré runs behind the dunes and links Loix village to the salt marshes of the Fier d'Ars, a Natura 2000 wetland and major bird migration site. Écomusée du Marais Salant at Loix explains the salt-making trade that shaped the island.
