Outer anchorage north of Saint-Martin-de-Ré on the Île de Ré, sand bottom, exposed to the westerly sector.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the north keeping the Vauban fortifications of Saint-Martin open to port. Hold off the rocky ledges that run along the shore to the east and west of the harbour entrance. The inner harbour is a locked basin working around high water. Boats waiting for the gate anchor in the outer roadstead in 3 to 5 metres on sand.
Practical
No services at the anchorage. The wet basin of Saint-Martin 0.8 nm south has 170 berths, water, electricity, fuel and a capitainerie on VHF 9. Shops, bakeries and restaurants on the quays and in the town within 5 minutes walk of the harbour.
Ashore
Saint-Martin-de-Ré is listed by UNESCO since 2008 as part of the Fortifications of Vauban. The ramparts of 1681 form a ring around the town, walkable in about an hour. Cycle paths cover the whole Île de Ré, about 110 km of dedicated routes, with bike hire shops on the harbour. Beach of La Cible next to the harbour to the west.
