Approach and anchoring
Approach from the bay of Morlaix leaving the Île Callot and its causeway to the W. Watch for the drying rocks off the pointe de Pen al Lann marked on SHOM 7095. Tidal range 8 m at springs, anchor clear of the Callot tombolo which dries and is crossed by vehicles at low water.
Practical
Forain anchorage on sand, holding good. Shelter from SE, S and SW winds, open to the N and NE. Roscoff-Bloscon marina 3.5 NM NW and Port Diben 3.9 NM NE as nearest refuges.
Ashore
Plage du Kelenn swimming area with lifeguards in July and August, sailing school of Carantec on the beach. Île Callot chapel and tombolo walk from the beach at low water, around 2 km each way. Carantec centre and shops 500 m S of the landing.
History
Carantec grew as a seaside resort from the 1880s, when the Paris Brest railway opened the Morlaix bay to bathers.
