Guide
Approach and anchoring
Freshwater lake mooring, no tide. Depths drop quickly offshore; holding on mud in 5 to 15 m within the 150 m coastal strip. Shelter from SE (foehn) and W winds rolling off the Jura; open to the Vaudaire wind from SW and to the Bise from NE, which both raise a short steep sea.
Practical
Forain mooring, no services. Use Port de Ripaille 0.5 NM W for water and berthing, or Port d'Amphion-Publier 0.8 NM SE for shops and the Évian water spring. CGN paddle-steamer service calls at Évian 2 km east.
Ashore
The Château de Ripaille is open to visitors, with gardens classified Jardin Remarquable. The forêt de Ripaille has walking loops of 2 to 5 km. Évian-les-Bains spa town is 2 km east along the lakeshore promenade.
History
The Château de Ripaille, on the shore west of the anchorage, was built from 1434 by Amédée VIII, first duke of Savoy and later antipope Felix V. The surrounding forêt domaniale de Ripaille covers 53 hectares of oak.
