Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach through the Lorient harbour entrance between the Pointe des Chats on Groix and the Pointe de Gâvres, then north-west past the commercial port towards the Keroman basin. Port control on VHF 12.
Practical
280 dry stack spaces with handling by travel lift on demand. Launch slip into the Ter. Water and electricity on service pontoon. Diesel at Kernével marina at 500 m.
Ashore
Cité de la Voile Eric Tabarly museum at 300 m, dedicated to offshore racing. Keroman submarine base with block K3 and its self-guided tour at 200 m. Sous-marin Flore S645 preserved as a museum ship at the base.
History
The Keroman submarine base was built by the Germans between 1941 and 1943 to shelter the U-boat flotillas of the Kriegsmarine. The base was spared destruction in 1945 and was used by the French Navy until 1997.
