Approach and anchoring

Access through the Passe de l'Ouest of the rade de Lorient between Port-Louis and Larmor-Plage, buoyed and lit for night entry. Strong ebb streams in the pass at spring tides. Marina entrance opens NE into the rade, 0.4 nm S of Lorient La Base. VHF 9.

Practical

1,000 berths on pontoons, fuel berth with diesel, water and electricity on all pontoons, sanitaries with showers, boatyard with travel lift. Capitainerie open year-round. Bus line 20 to Lorient centre from a stop 150 m from the marina.

Ashore

Plage de Port-Maria at Larmor-Plage village 900 m W of the marina. Cité de la Voile Éric Tabarly and submarine base museum at Lorient La Base, 0.4 nm N across the rade, accessible by dinghy or the maritime shuttle Batobus from the Kernével pontoon.

History

Kernével was a German U-boat command post during World War II, hosting admiral Dönitz's staff from 1940 to 1942 in the Villa Kerillon still visible on the shore opposite the Lorient submarine pens.
