Anchorage on the northern shore of the Île de Ré in Charente-Maritime, between La Flotte and Saint-Martin-de-Ré, on sand.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Pertuis Breton at half tide or above. Large drying sand flats extend from the shore, sound the depth and anchor outside the 3 m line at low water springs. Sheltered from W, SW and S behind the island; exposed to the N where the fetch across the Pertuis is 6 NM.
Practical
Forain anchorage, no services. La Flotte-en-Ré 1.2 NM SE and Saint-Martin-de-Ré 1.2 NM W, both dry harbours with lock or sill, offer water, fuel and visitor berths. Tender landing on the sand at high water.
Ashore
Saint-Martin-de-Ré is 1.2 NM away, its Vauban fortifications are listed UNESCO World Heritage since 2008 as part of the Fortifications of Vauban. Coastal cycle route runs along the shore between the two harbours through vineyards and salt marshes. Fish market on the quai de Sénac in Saint-Martin every morning.
