Approach and anchoring
Entrance from the Bay of Biscay through a buoyed channel between the Karek-Greis west cardinal and the Men-Audierne green beacon. The channel is dredged to 3.5 metres and accessible at all tides for most yachts. Strong cross-current on the ebb. Watch for the ferry shuttling to Île-Tudy. Call on VHF 9.
Practical
650 berths with dedicated visitor pontoon near the capitainerie. Water, electricity, diesel at the fuel berth, 30 tonne travel-lift and a full boatyard. Showers and laundry. Bakery and small supermarket at 300 metres, market every Tuesday morning on place des Anciens Combattants.
Ashore
Île-Tudy reached by the passenger ferry from the port in five minutes, sandy beach on the western shore. Pont-l'Abbé the regional capital of Bigouden country is 5 km upstream by road, Musée Bigouden in the fifteenth century castle. Coastal path from the port to Pointe de Langoz lighthouse at 1,2 km.
History
Loctudy takes its name from the sixth century Welsh monk Saint Tudy who founded a priory here. The Romanesque church from around 1130 is one of the best preserved in Brittany. The port was a major sardine and langoustine fishing harbour in the twentieth century and still hosts a daily afternoon fish auction.
Story
The pink langoustine of Loctudy, landed alive from the Glénan grounds, carries a protected label since 2010 and appears on menus from Brest to Paris under the name demoiselle de Loctudy.
