Approach and anchoring

Sand and mud bottom, reasonable holding. Sheltered from NW, N, W and SW by the ring of islands, open to the SE through the main pass. Rock-strewn approaches, pilotage by day only in good visibility. Tidal streams run through the gaps between the islets. Glénans anchorage proper is 1.3 nm NW.

Practical

No facilities on Ezer itself. Les Glénans sailing school base on Saint-Nicolas and Penfret operate seasonally with no commercial services for passing yachts. Loctudy on the mainland, 1.4 nm NW in the data but realistically about 9 nm N on the chart, offers fuel, water and full marina services. Water and stores should be taken on the mainland before visiting.

Ashore

Glénan archipelago is a protected Natura 2000 site with a botanical reserve on Saint-Nicolas home to the Glénan narcissus, Narcissus triandrus subsp. capax, found only here. Clear turquoise water over white sand. Walking on Saint-Nicolas limited to marked paths to protect the reserve.

History

The Centre nautique des Glénans, founded in 1947 by Hélène and Philippe Viannay, turned the archipelago into one of the best known sailing schools in Europe.
