Loctudy base of the Glénans sailing school, on the Pont-l'Abbé estuary in south Finistère, Brittany.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entry from the Bay of Biscay through the Pont-l'Abbé river mouth, between Île Tudy to the east and Langoz point to the west. Channel marked by lateral buoys. Strong tidal streams on the flood and ebb. Loctudy harbour VHF 9.
Practical
The Glénans school runs its own pontoon within Loctudy harbour for its fleet and trainees. Visiting yachts normally berth at the adjacent Loctudy marina, which has water, electricity, diesel, showers and a capitainerie open in season.
Ashore
Loctudy village is a five-minute walk from the pontoons, with bakeries, a supermarket and the fish market by the fishing quay where trawlers land langoustines every afternoon. Coastal path east to Île-Tudy via the passeur ferry, and west to the beach of Langoz at 600 m.
History
Les Glénans was founded in 1947 by former French Resistance members Hélène and Philippe Viannay, initially on the Glénans archipelago offshore. The Loctudy base was added later and has become one of the school's main mainland centres for dinghy and keelboat training.
