Guide
Approach and anchoring
Navigation on the Rance is regulated by the tidal dam at La Richardais; lock opens on demand by VHF 13. From the dam, head upstream roughly 6 NM to reach Le Minihic. Water level is held at a constant +4 m inside the basin. Good shelter from NW, N and W winds; the Rance rarely sees heavy seas once past the dam.
Practical
Mooring on mud with good holding. Port Minic lies 0,6 NM to the W for water and a dinghy landing; Le Minihic village pontoon is 0,5 NM to the SW.
Ashore
Chantier naval du Minihic on the village waterfront, active since the 18th century for wooden shipbuilding. Village bakery and grocery at 0,4 km. Rance coastal path leading to La Landriais and its restored shipyard slipway at 1,2 km.
History
Le Minihic-sur-Rance built deep-sea sailing ships for the Saint-Malo trade from the 17th to the 19th century; the last wooden three-masters left the village yards in the 1890s.
