Small tidal harbour on the west bank of the Rance estuary at Le Minihic-sur-Rance, between Dinan and Saint-Malo in Brittany.

Guide

Approach and anchoring

Access is governed by the Rance tidal power plant lock at La Richardais, which opens on scheduled slots through the day. Approach from the buoyed Rance channel; the harbour lies just north of the Pointe du Grouin-du-Sud bend. Use VHF 13 for traffic on the estuary. Mind the strong reversing currents when the lock gates operate.

Practical

A modest facility used mainly by local boats on swinging moorings and a short pontoon. Limited visitor capacity. Water on the quay. No fuel on site. The nearest fuel, chandlery and full services are at Plouer-sur-Rance marina upriver and Saint-Malo downriver.

Ashore

The village of Le Minihic-sur-Rance sits 300 m above the port with a boulangerie and a small grocery. The GR 34 coastal footpath runs along the west bank of the estuary and passes the port, with the old shipyards site of La Landriais 1 km north. Saint-Suliac, classed among the Plus Beaux Villages de France, is 1.6 nm east across the estuary.

History

Le Minihic-sur-Rance was a shipbuilding parish through the 19th century, launching long-distance cargo schooners from yards at La Landriais and Le Minihic. The last wooden hulls were built here in the 1920s. The opening of the Rance tidal barrage in 1966 permanently changed the estuary's tidal regime.
