Small river port on the right bank of the Gironde estuary, in the Saint-Ciers-sur-Gironde area of northern Médoc.

Guide

Approach and anchoring

Approach from the estuary main channel then into a dredged creek. Tirant d'eau up to 1.8 m at the pontoon near high water. The Gironde runs 2 to 3 knots on the flood and ebb, so time the approach with the flood. Banks are muddy and shallow outside the buoyed access.

Practical

Pontoon with water and electricity for local members and visitors. Limited services on site. Nearest fuel and full shops at Pauillac, 6.9 nm south across the estuary. Port des Callonges sits 3.7 nm SE as an alternative refuge.

Ashore

The right bank of the Gironde here is a patchwork of vineyards, marsh and old fishermen's carrelets on stilts. The Blaye citadel built by Vauban is 20 km upstream, UNESCO listed as part of the Vauban fortifications network. Médoc wine estates around Saint-Estèphe on the opposite bank, reached by the Lamarque ferry.
