Small tidal port on the left bank of the Gironde estuary at the foot of the Phare de Richard, commune of Jau-Dignac-et-Loirac.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entry from the main Gironde channel via a short unmarked creek. Usable around high water only, dries to mud at low water. Flood stream runs to 3 knots off the approach. Keep the Phare de Richard on a bearing to line up with the channel.
Practical
Wooden pontoons for shoal draft local boats, no visitor berths formally allocated. No fuel, no water on the pontoon. Bar and small restaurant next to the lighthouse in season.
Ashore
Phare de Richard directly at the port, 18 metre brick lighthouse built in 1843, decommissioned and now a museum on estuary life and the carrelets fishery. Footpath along the dyke towards Goulée to the SE.
