Tidal harbour on the right bank of the Gironde estuary, in the commune of Saint-Fort-sur-Gironde, Charente-Maritime.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Narrow buoyed channel cut through the mudflats, accessible roughly 2 hours either side of high water. About 0.5 m at low water inside the basin, plan on tidal windows. Strong estuary current on the main Gironde channel, expect up to 3 knots.
Practical
Around 80 berths mostly for local craft. Water at the quay. Few services on site, shops in Saint-Fort-sur-Gironde village 2 km inland. Mortagne-sur-Gironde marina 3.3 NM to the NW is the closest larger harbour.
Ashore
The old carrelets, square fishing nets on stilts, line the estuary bank around the harbour. Talmont-sur-Gironde, listed among the Plus Beaux Villages de France, sits 7 km to the NW with its Romanesque church Sainte-Radegonde perched over the cliff. Cognac vineyards of the Bons Bois and Fins Bois crus spread inland.
