Guide
Approach and anchoring
Access via the Chenal de Goulée from the main estuary channel. Entry only around high water, the channel dries at low water. Strong tidal streams in the Gironde, typically 2 to 3 knots on the flood. No night entry, channel unlit.
Practical
Small wooden pontoons used mainly by local fishing boats and a few shoal draft yachts. No fuel, no chandlery on site. Village of Jau-Dignac-et-Loirac about 3 km inland with a bakery and a small grocery.
Ashore
Phare de Richard at 1 nm NW, small lighthouse museum open in season. Traditional carrelets, the square fishing nets on stilts, line the bank. Médoc vineyards of the Haut-Médoc and Médoc AOC start a few kilometres inland.
