Approach and anchoring
Isthmus Cove opens to the north-east and is sheltered from the prevailing north-west and west winds. Sand bottom. A mooring field of 242 buoys fills the centre of the cove, rented first-come on VHF channel 9. Anchoring is allowed outside the buoy rows, where depths can exceed 100 feet. Fresh water can be taken ashore.
Practical
Isthmus Cove is the second busiest boating destination on Catalina after Avalon. Harbour Patrol monitors VHF channel 9. The nearest mainland marinas, Los Angeles Yacht Club and Holiday Harbor Cabrillo Marina, lie about 20 nautical miles north-east at San Pedro.
Ashore
The village of Two Harbors sits on the narrow isthmus a short walk from the landing, with a general store and restaurant. Catalina Harbor lies on the far side of the isthmus, about 0.6 km across.
