Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from Isthmus Cove and pick up one of the 99 numbered moorings; deep-water anchoring lies outside the buoy field in 30 metres or more. Lion's Head, the headland on the west side, shelters boats from the prevailing afternoon wind. The cove is open from W to S. Call mooring information on 310.510.4254 or Harbor Patrol on VHF channel 09.
Practical
Ninety-nine moorings and no services in the cove. A shoreboat runs year-round, from 0700 to 0200 in summer and 0800 to 1700 in winter, linking to Two Harbors village for store, fuel and water.
Ashore
A Boy Scout camp occupies the shore. Up the canyon behind the cove stand two groves of trees endemic to the island, the Catalina cherry and the Catalina ironwood, which give the cove its name.
