Approach and anchoring
Approach from the southeast along the Esterel shore. The bottom is rock and patches of algae, so pick a sand pocket and dive the anchor to confirm it is set. Sheltered from N through E winds, exposed to the south and southwest. Keep an eye on the seasonal swimming buoys along the adjacent beaches.
Practical
No services at the mooring. Port d'Agay lies 1.5 NM to the west with fuel, water and visitor berths. Port du Poussaï at 2.1 NM to the west serves as a secondary shelter.
Ashore
The red cliffs of the Esterel massif rise straight from the sea in volcanic rhyolite. The Sentier du Littoral runs along the coast from Agay to Cap Dramont, passing the memorial to the US 36th Division that landed here in August 1944. The Île d'Or with its square tower sits 2 NM east off Le Dramont.
Story
The square ochre tower of the Île d'Or, visible east from the anchorage, is said to have inspired Hergé's Black Island in the Tintin albums.
