Guide

Approach and anchoring

Rade d'Agay is a deep bay open to the S, well protected from mistral and levant. Entry between two jetties with red and green lights. Watch for the shallow sandbank along the N shore. Maximum draught 1 m at the visitor berths. VHF channel 9.

Practical

195 berths, capitainerie on the west quay. Water and electricity on the pontoons, fuel berth at the entrance. Chandlery and slipway on site. Bakery, grocer and restaurants along the beachfront within 150 m.

Ashore

Sandy beach of Agay runs from the marina to the east for 800 m. GR 51 sentier du littoral climbs the red porphyry cliffs of the Esterel towards the Cap du Dramont and its Île d'Or, about 3 km west. Train halt of Agay on the Marseille-Ventimiglia line 400 m from the quay.

History

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry married Consuelo Suncín at the château d'Agay in 1931. His P-38 Lightning went down off the coast near here in July 1944, and fragments of the aircraft were recovered from the seabed in 2000.
