Approach and anchoring

The Gulf of Morbihan tidal streams reach 8 knots at springs through the Grands Courreaux off Port-Blanc. Time arrival near slack water. Pick up one of the 8 buoys rather than anchoring: weed gives poor holding. Shelter is limited to winds from NW, W and SW.

Practical

Buoys only, no services ashore on the island. Larmor-Baden at 0.8 nm NW has water, a small supermarket and a boulangerie. Kerners-Bilouris at 0.8 nm SE gives an alternative landing with a slipway.

Ashore

The island lies inside the Natura 2000 zone of the Gulf of Morbihan. Landing by tender allows a short walk along the foreshore. The passenger shuttle from Port-Blanc to the Île-aux-Moines runs every 30 minutes in season, 1.5 nm north, for access to the 7 km coastal footpath around the Île-aux-Moines.

History

The Gulf of Morbihan holds one of the densest concentrations of Neolithic monuments in Europe, including the Cairn of Gavrinis 2 nm west, dated to around 4000 BC.
