Approach and anchoring
Approach from the sea, close W of the Grau d'Agde entrance. Sand bottom, shelter from NW only; exposed to E, SE and S, including the Mediterranean swell pushed by marin winds. Watch the bar at the Hérault mouth, which moves after strong weather.
Practical
Quai Commandant Méric at 0,2 nm E on the Hérault, Port du Grau d'Agde at 0,4 nm NE for berths and fuel.
Ashore
Forêt domaniale de la Tamarissière at the back of the beach, planted with tamarisks and stone pines in the nineteenth century by the forestry administration to fix the dunes. Agde old town at about 4 km, with the basalt cathedral Saint-Étienne built in the twelfth century from black volcanic stone.
