Approach and anchoring

Approach from the S at a slow speed; the park speed limit is 5 knots within 300 m of the shore. Holding on a sand patch at the head of the calanque, depths around 5 to 8 m. Protection from the S only; open to the E and W, and the mistral blows down the gullies from the N.

Practical

No services, no pontoon, no water. Nearest full facilities at Port des Goudes 2.6 NM NW and Port de la Madrague de Montredon 3.4 NM N. Park regulations forbid overnight anchoring in parts of the core zone from June to September; check the current Arrêté at the Bureau des Calanques before staying the night.

Ashore

GR 98 sentier des Calanques passes above the cove, linking Callelongue to Cassis over three days of walking. No road access. The core zone is a no-take fishing reserve since 2012.

History

The Calanques were quarried for limestone and marine stone (Cassis stone) from the Roman period onwards, used in the construction of Marseille harbour and the Suez Canal lock at Port Said.
