Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the north between Île Lavezzi and Île de Cavallo. Granite boulders on both sides, a well-marked channel leads into the cove. Depths of 3 to 5 metres on sand. Strong currents cross the Bouches de Bonifacio and build swell with westerly winds.
Practical
Mooring buoys installed by the Office de l'Environnement de la Corse to protect the Posidonia meadows, anchoring on sand otherwise. Protected from N through NE to E and from the NW, exposed to the S and SW. No services on the island. Bonifacio 5 NM NW, Sant'Amanza 4.2 NM N.
Ashore
The Île Lavezzi is uninhabited and part of the Réserve naturelle des Bouches de Bonifacio created in 1999. Marked footpaths cross the island to the cemetery of the wreck of La Sémillante, a French frigate lost here in 1855 with 773 men on board.
History
La Sémillante sank on the rocks of the Lavezzi on 15 February 1855 during a storm, on passage from Toulon to Crimea. There were no survivors. Two walled cemeteries on the island hold the recovered remains.
