Sand anchorage on the east coast of Corsica, off the commune of Borgo, south of Bastia.

Beach

Guide

Approach and anchoring

Approach on sight from the E along the Tyrrhenian coast. Sand bottom on 5 to 12 m, holding good. Open to E, NE, SE and S, tenable only with W to SW winds. Reefs close to shore, hold at least 150 m off the beach. Refuge at Bastia Vieux-Port 7.1 NM NW.

Practical

No services in the cove. Bastia Vieux-Port 7.1 NM NW and Port Toga 7.8 NM N both offer diesel, water and berths. Poretta airport of Bastia directly ashore, expect aircraft noise in daytime.

Ashore

Plage de la Marana, 10 km of continuous sand between Bastia and the Biguglia lagoon, accessible by crossing the coast road. Reserve naturelle de l'etang de Biguglia at 3 km W, largest wetland of Corsica with flamingos and purple herons.

History

Borgo gave its name to the battle of 9 October 1768 where Corsican forces led by Pascal Paoli briefly defeated a French expeditionary corps, before the final defeat at Ponte-Novu the following year.
