Approach and anchoring
Wide sandy bay open to the S. Approach from the S clear of the Pointe de Penchateau to the W. Sand bottom, holding good. Protection from N, NE and E. Fully exposed to S and SW swell, untenable in fresh onshore winds.
Practical
No moorings ashore in the bay itself. Port du Pouliguen marina at 2 NM W with 860 berths and lock access to the tidal basin. Port de Pornichet at 1.6 NM SE with 1150 berths and a fuel berth. Shops along the 9 km beach promenade of La Baule.
Ashore
La Baule beach runs 9 km along the bay, one of the longest in Europe. Guerande salt marshes and the medieval walled town at 5 km to the NW. Batz-sur-Mer and its 60 m bell tower at 3 km W of Le Pouliguen.
