Approach and anchoring
More than 360 moorings serve Avalon, Descanso Bay and Hamilton Cove, all assigned first-come, first-served. On arrival, stand by just outside the harbour entrance for an assignment from the Harbor Patrol boat; moorings are not given out over the radio. The Harbor Department works VHF 12 and 16 around the clock. Anchoring is permitted outside the breakwater, west of the Casino, in about 150 feet of water.
Practical
A no-wake, five-mile-per-hour limit applies near the moorings and anchorage. The fuel berth supplies petrol, diesel, fresh water and a pump-out year-round, and propane is available ashore.
Ashore
The town of Avalon lies directly behind the waterfront, with shops, restaurants and provisioning within walking distance. The 1929 Casino building stands at the north end of the harbour and houses a cinema and a ballroom; the Casino Dive Park sits just off its seaward side.
