Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the main Golfe du Morbihan channel via the Pointe de Berder. Strong tidal currents in the Golfe, up to 8 knots at springs in the narrows near Port-Navalo. Moorings on buoys off the village quay; no deep-water berths alongside at low water.
Practical
Visitor moorings on buoys managed by the commune. Water tap on the quay. Small grocery, bakery and restaurants in the village within 200 m. Passenger ferry Izenah Croisieres to Vannes and Conleau, year round.
Ashore
Tour de l'ile footpath, roughly 17 km around the coast. Moulin a maree de Berno, a restored tide mill 1.5 km north of the village. Eglise Notre-Dame, 11th to 12th century, in the village centre.
History
The Ile-d'Arz was home to a community of long-haul sailors, the capitaines au long cours, from the 18th to the early 20th century. Several retirement homes for sailors were established on the island during that period.
