Wide sandy bay north of Le Conquet, at the western tip of Finistere, used as a fair-weather anchorage before or after transiting the Chenal du Four.

Approach and anchoring

Enter from the west, leaving the Grande Vinotiere beacon and the Kermorvan peninsula to the south. Sand bottom with good holding across most of the bay. Open to the NW, N and NE; reliable shelter only in winds from NE round to SW. Strong tidal streams run in the Chenal du Four just outside, up to 5 knots at springs.

Practical

No services in the bay. Le Conquet fishing harbour lies 0.6 nm south with a visitor pontoon, water and provisioning in town. L'Aber Ildut, 6 nm north, is the next all-tide refuge up the coast.

Ashore

The GR34 coast path crosses the beach and climbs to the Kermorvan lighthouse of 1849, about 1.2 km south. The ferry terminal for Ouessant and Molene is in Le Conquet, 20 minutes on foot. Shops, bakeries and restaurants are grouped along rue Lieutenant Jourden in Le Conquet.
