Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south-east across the Baie de Douarnenez. Sand bottom, good holding. Sheltered from NW, N, NE, W and SW, open to the south-east. VHF 9 for the harbour of Morgat. Watch for the Basse Vieille cardinal south of the Cap de la Chèvre on arrival from the south.
Practical
Water available. Port de Morgat at 0.3 NM south for berths, fuel and all services. Camaret-sur-Mer Bassin du Nautique at 4.8 NM north-west as an alternative for northerly winds.
Ashore
Grottes marines of Morgat visible by dinghy or tour boat from the beach, including the Grotte de l'Autel with walls coloured by iron and manganese oxides. Coastal GR 34 path along the Cap de la Chèvre, about 6 km one way, with views over the Baie de Douarnenez. Plage de Morgat directly behind the harbour.
History
Morgat was a sardine port from the mid nineteenth century, with a cannery opened by Peugeot Frères in 1884 and shut in 1923. The site is now within the Parc naturel régional d'Armorique, created in 1969.
