Approach and anchoring
Tidal estuary with strong currents running up to 3 knots on springs. Approach at slack water or with favourable tide, keeping clear of the Banc de Trompeloup. Sand bottom, fair holding. Shelter from W, SW, S and SE; open to N and E where the estuary fetch builds quickly.
Practical
Port Bloc 4.1 NM to the SE at Le Verdon-sur-Mer, gateway marina for the Royan ferry, water and fuel. Port Médoc 4.5 NM SE with 800 berths, full services and a boatyard.
Ashore
Phare de Cordouan visible offshore to the NW, France's oldest working lighthouse and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2021. Pointe de Grave beach and dune trails within walking distance. Royan reachable by passenger ferry from Le Verdon.
