Marina of 405 berths on the east coast of Corsica, in the commune of Santa-Maria-Poggio, about 20 nautical miles south of Bastia.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Direct approach from seaward. Entrance channel marked by red and green lights at the jetty heads. Maximum draught 2.5 m. Depths reduce near the quays, call the harbour office on VHF 9 before entering in strong easterly winds which build a swell across the entrance.
Practical
405 berths with water and 32 A electricity on the pontoons, large plugs only and some faulty, so carry a long lead. The office often runs winter hours and closes around 17:00, and reservations are unreliable with email and VHF sometimes unanswered, so call ahead and, on a late arrival, moor alongside the reception or fuel quay. Diesel is 24 hour self-service by card at the entrance, cheaper than nearby. Showers and laundry in the sanitary block, chandlery and repair yard on site. Rates run high, around 42 euros for 10 metres and 80 to 90 for 12 to 14 metres, with a sulphur smell about at times.
Ashore
There are no shops at the harbour beyond two restaurants. The nearest supermarket, a Super U or Utile at Prunete with a bakery, lies about 2.5 to 3 km away along a walking and cycling greenway. Long sandy beach of Moriani Plage starts at the north jetty, 2 km of uninterrupted sand. Village of Santa-Maria-Poggio and its Pisan parish church of San Siméon at 3 km inland. Étang de Diana lagoon and its oyster beds 18 km south along the coast road.
History
The harbour was built in the 1970s during the Corsican coastal marina programme. The name Taverna comes from the medieval staging post on the route between Aléria and Bastia.
