Approach and anchoring

Approach is clear from the open sea with no offshore dangers. Anchor on sand in 4 to 7 metres, where holding is excellent, close in to the beach. The roadstead is wide open and rolls even in light winds, so use it only in flat calm; a swell from ferries passing well offshore, or any easterly, quickly makes it untenable, and a tidal current runs across the anchorage. Sheltered only from SW, W and NW. Port Taverna 0.6 NM N is the immediate refuge, Bastia Vieux Port 22.3 NM N.

Practical

Forain anchoring only. Port Taverna, 0.6 NM north, has water, diesel, pontoon berths and the capitainerie, and a couple of restaurants, but no grocery. The nearest shops are at Prunete on the coast road.

Ashore

Cervione sits 5 km inland on the hillside at 321 m altitude, with its 16th century cathedral Saint-Érasme and an ethnographic museum. The sandy beach of Prunete runs along the coast south of the anchorage for about 3 km.
